Six Tigers Appear in Preseason ITA Rankings

BATON ROUGE – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released their 2014 preseason rankings for men’s singles and doubles on Monday. The list featured several Tigers including senior Chris Simpson who ranked No. 49 in singles and sophomore Jordan Daigle who came in at No. 57.

LSU also had two doubles teams listed as junior Tam Trinh and sophomore Eric Perez ranked No. 14, and sophomore Justin Butsch and junior Boris Arias open the season ranked 46th.

In addition to the rankings, the ITA also announced which players and doubles teams were selected to compete in the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships, which is the ITA’s first national event of the 2014–15 season.

The ITA selected Simpson, Daigle, Trinh and Perez to participate in the bracket for singles qualifying play. Butsch made the alternate list for qualifying singles.

LSU added another six players to the prequalifying singles bracket with freshmen Simon Freund and William Adkisson to go along with juniors Andrew Korinek, Harrison Kennedy, sophomore John Michael Busch and Butsch.

On the doubles side, the ITA selected the duo of Trinh and Perez for the main draw in the doubles field. Arias and Butsch will participate in the qualifying doubles bracket.

The tournament will take place at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma starting with pre-qualifying play on Saturday, Sept. 27 and main draw play set to begin on Oct. 2.

LSU will open the 2014-15 season one week earlier when the Tigers take part in both the Cajun Classic and the SEC Fall Classic from Sept. 18-21.
