Notes on the Tigers
LSU was handed consecutive four-set road losses by Auburn and Alabama over the weekend to drop to 13-5 overall and 3-3 in SEC play. With the setbacks, the Tigers are tied for sixth place in the SEC standings. LSU’s offense was limited to 11.62 kills per set on a .195 hitting percentage. Desiree Elliott, Briana Holman, Cati Leak and Katie Lindelow each posted over two kills per set. Leak buried 16 kills on a .366 hitting percentage, both season-highs for a SEC match, versus Alabama. Lindelow also compiled her sixth double-double of the season, 11 kills and 17 digs, during the Alabama match. With her 17 kills over the weekend, Elliott moved to within six kills of passing former teammate Michele Williams (2008-11) for 17th place on LSU’s all-time list. Holman’s team-leading 15 blocks pushed her over the century mark for the season. She is the only SEC player to accomplish that feat at this point in the season. Madi Mahaffey also chipped in 10 stuffs to remain among the SEC’s Top 10 in blocks. On the back row, Haley Smith had her run of 12 straight matches with 10-plus digs come to a close at Auburn. She bounced back with a 17-scoop effort against Alabama. LSU returns home to face the SEC’s undefeated frontrunner and No. 11 Missouri [Friday – 7 p.m.] along with Arkansas [Sunday – 1 p.m.].
