AWENDAW, S.C. – Junior All-SEC and All-America contender Andrew Presley earned his team-leading fifth top-10 finish of the campaign by tying for seventh place on the leaderboard as he guided the Tigers to a fifth-place team finish following Tuesday’s final round at the ninth-annual Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate held at Bulls Bay Golf Club.
After firing the lowest team score of Monday’s second round at 3-under par 285, the Tigers followed with a 12-over par round of 300 in Tuesday’s final round for a final score of 25-over par 889 to take fifth place overall in the 15-team field. They teed off on Tuesday with a one-shot lead over the 11th-ranked Duke Blue Devils.
Duke took the team title by three shots over the NC State Wolfpack with a winning 54-hole score of 10-over par 874, including a team total of 4-under par 284 in the final round.
Wake Forest followed in third place overall at 20-over par 884, while Missouri trailed in fourth place overall at 24-over par 888 for the championship. LSU rounded out the top five of the final team standings in fifth place among the 15 teams competing this week with its final team score of 25-over par 889.
Presley posted a 54-hole score of 3-over par 219 to finish in a tie for seventh place overall as he followed rounds of 1-under 71 and even-par 72 on Monday with a 4-over 76 in the final round on Tuesday afternoon.
It marked the second-straight top-10 finish for the Tiger standout as he finished runner-up on the leaderboard at the Argent Financial Classic on March 12. Presley has now earned three top-10 finishes in five starts this spring as he also tied for fifth place at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Feb. 19 in LSU’s spring opener.
Presley also matched his career-high from a year ago when he claimed five top-10 finishes en route to a Second-Team All-SEC selection as a sophomore following the 2011-12 season.
Sophomore Curtis Thompson set the pace for the Tigers in the final round as he wrapped up the even with a 1-over par round of 73 during Tuesday’s finale while tying for 17th place at 6-over par 222 for the week.
Fellow sophomore Stewart Jolly followed Thompson in a tie for 22nd place overall at 8-over 224 while shooting a 3-over par 75 in the final round, while freshman Zach Wright recorded a 5-over 77 to finish the day in a tie for 33rd place at 11-over 227 and sophomore Myles Lewis added a 4-over 76 to finish the event in a tie for 43rd place at 13-over 229.
NC State’s Logan Harrell, who teed off in the final round in a tie for seventh place, fired the lowest round of the day at 6-under 66 to surge into the lead and claim the individual title with a winning score of 3-under 213.
Austin Cody led Duke to the team championship by carding a 5-under 67 in the final round as he took home the second-place trophy with his 54-hole score of 2-under 214. Duke’s Mads Soegaard also finished in the top five of the final leaderboard with a tournament score of 1-under 215 as he tied for third place overall with NC State’s Albin Choi.
The Tigers are now set to wrap up their regular season next weekend with a trip to College Station, Texas, as they compete at the Aggie Invitational being held April 6-7 at Traditions Golf Club near the campus of Texas A&M University. They will then kick off the postseason on April 19-21 at the 2013 SEC Men’s Golf Championships being held at the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga.
