BATON ROUGE – The LSU Soccer team will soon welcome Class of 2012 recruit Jade Kovacevic to Baton Rouge following her stint with the Under-20 Canadian Women’s National Team which wrapped up group play at the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan on Monday evening.
Canada took three points from three matches for third place in Group C to finish behind the nine points by North Korea and six points by Norway as only the top two teams advanced to the knockout stages.
Kovacevic came off the bench in the 60th minute of Canada’s 6-0 victory over Argentina in the first match in group play on Aug. 20 for her FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup debut. She even served up the assist on Canada’s final goal of the match in the 86th minute by Catherine Charron-Delage while attacking from her right back position. Kovacevic is likely to slide into the midfield for the Tigers.
After opening with a dominating 6-0 victory over Argentina, Canada dropped a pair of one-goal decisions with back-to-back 2-1 defeats to Norway on Thursday and North Korea on Monday.
A native of Georgetown, Ontario, Kovacevic has earned a total of four World Cup appearances as a youth in the Canadian Women’s National Team system. That includes her three appearances in group play at the 2010 U-17 Women’s World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago two years ago.
