BATON ROUGE – Louisiana Tech’s Erin Kipp along with LSU’s Brittany Mack came away with this week’s edition of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards Wednesday as voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.
A sophomore for the Lady Techsters, Kipp boasted a .600 batting average with three extra base hits and seven RBIs which doubled her season total entering the week. She recorded hits in all three games as Tech claimed a series win over Utah State during its WAC opener. The Bullard, Texas, native matched her career-high with a 3-for-3 performance and drove home six RBIs during game two of the series. The six RBIs tied for second-best for a single-game in program history.
A senior hurler for the Tigers, Mack secured victories over Georgia Tech and South Carolina en route to 16 strikeouts in her 14 spotless innings of work. She took a no-hit bid one out into the seventh inning at South Carolina. In the process, Mack became the fifth pitcher in LSU history to surpass 500 career strikeouts and reach the 50-win plateau. She has now won seven consecutive decisions dating back to March 3.
It’s the seventh career weekly award for Mack and first for Kipp from the LSWA.
