BATON ROUGE — LSU sophomore right-hander Kevin Gausman was named SEC Pitcher of the Week Monday by the league office.

Gausman fired a career-high 11 strikeouts through eight shutout innings in a 6-0 win over Michigan on Friday night in Alex Box Stadium. He limited the Wolverines to no runs on only two hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts.

Gausman, a product of Centennial, Colo., allowed just a leadoff single in the second inning and a one-out single in the eighth inning as only two Michigan hitters reached base and neither one advanced past first base. He retired 19 batters in a row between the second-inning single and the eighth-inning single.

Gausman is 4-0 this season with a 1.32 ERA in 27.1 innings. He has recorded two walks and 31 strikeouts, and opponents are hitting .198 against him.

LSU freshman right-hander Aaron Nola delivered a dominant performance in just his second career collegiate start, blanking Tulane through eight innings of work Tuesday night in a 5-0 victory in New Orleans … Nola allowed just three hits while recording no walks and a career-best six strikeouts … only five Tulane hitters reach base, three via single and two were hit by a pitch … only one Green Wave baserunner advanced beyond second base… Nola fired 78 pitches in the outing; remarkably, 62 of the 78 pitches (79 percent) were strikes.

Notes on the Tigers
