BATON ROUGE – McNeese State’s Claire Terracina and LSU’s Rachele Fico picked up Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards Wednesday as voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.
A senior outfielder for the Cowgirls, Terracina collected nine en route to a .562 batting average. She also scored three runs , stole two bases and was named to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament Team. With three triples for the week, the Lake Charles native equaled McNeese’s program record with 14 career three-baggers.
A junior pitcher for the Tigers, Fico tacked two more shutouts to her ledger highlighted by her third one-hitter of the season against McNeese State. Like Terracina, she was selected to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament Team. Fico retired 19 straight batters at one point. She improved to 5-1 and shaved her ERA to a paltry 0.37 ratio for the season.
It’s the sixth weekly award for Fico and first for Terracina from the LSWA.
