Nominee for Pitcher of the Week

Rachele Fico, P, Jr., Oxford, Conn.
Fico picked up a pair of wins and tossed 13 shutout innings to claim Tiger Classic All-Tournament honors. Opponents collected only three hits en route to a paltry .073 versus Fico on the weekend. The junior right-hander tossed a two-hitter and fanned 10 batters in a victory over Penn State, a 2011 NCAA Tournament team. She followed that up with a one-hit and allowed only two base runners over five frames versus Louisiana Tech.

Notes on the Tigers
No. 22 LSU opened the Beth Torina era with a 2-2 mark at the Tiger Classic. Rachele Fico picked up both wins in the circle and tossed 13 shutout innings to claim Tiger Classic All-Tournament Team honors. The junior right-hander was touched up for only three hits as opponents notched a paltry .073 batting average versus Fico. She fired in 10 Ks to fuel a dramatic 1-0 victory over Penn State, a 2011 NCAA Tournament team. LSU’s offense was paced by Juliana Santos, another Tiger Classic All-Tournament Team selection. She drove home a team-high 4 RBIs. Ashley Applegate hit safely in three of four games, while Rikki Alcaraz and Kailey McCasland secured their first career RBIs versus Louisiana Tech. LSU concludes its five-game homestand Wednesday versus Florida State before traveling to the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic over the weekend in Las Vegas. The Tigers square off with No. 4 California, Cal State Northridge, DePaul and Utah State.
