BATON ROUGE – The LSU softball team completed its third annual ticket delivery and hand delivered 57 season tickets to its fans over the weekend.
“This time of year is always exciting,” senior Ashley Applegate said. “The anticipation for our opening game at Tiger Park on February 10 is running so high. Delivering season tickets to our fans that bleed purple and gold makes this whole experience so special and one that I will miss.”
“Getting a chance to talk with people that share our excitement about the upcoming season was truly amazing,” senior Heidi Pizer said. “The enthusiasm and LSU pride that I saw today was a great reminder of what an awesome community LSU softball has become.”
The Tigers made five stops Friday as 13 players along with head coach Beth Torina surprised ticketholders who work on the LSU campus. After bringing them their tickets, the facility members were brought out of their office and saluted by the players with the LSU Chinese Bandits song playing in the background.
Prior to its Saturday scrimmage, LSU hit the road and broke into nine groups. The Tigers visited parts of Central, Port Allen, Plaquemine, Prairieville, Greenwell Springs, Gonzales and Baton Rouge.
“It was such a wonderful experience meeting all the fans that come to almost every one of our games,” freshman Tammy Vermeulen said. “We got to meet girls who look up to us and wonder what it takes to get to our level. The feeling I got from seeing how much we are praised by so many people is truly amazing. It is so special to be surrounded by so many loving fans that only want us to succeed. We don’t only play for ourselves or for our team, we play for our university and for all of our loving and caring fans. We wouldn’t be able to succeed without them. It was truly an unforgettable day.”
The remainder of the season tickets will be shipped on Monday, January 30 via UPS.
LSU is 13 days away from opening the 2012 campaign and playing host to the Tiger Classic. The Tigers usher in the next chapter of their storied history under first-year coach Beth Torina on February 10 versus Penn State. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. from Tiger Park. LSU also has match-ups slated against No. 15/16 Michigan and Louisiana Tech on opening weekend.
