BATON ROUGE, La. — The LSU Diving team left the Georgia Diving Invitational with high hopes for the postseason after improving as a team during the three-day event.

In day three of the invitational, both the men and women competed on the platform for the last time before the SEC Championships in February.

“We finished with good results in the platform events,” Diving Coach Doug Shaffer said. “I am pleased with the divers’ successes over the weekend. Our focus now is towards the championship season and preparing accordingly.”

The women duo of freshman Alex Bettridge and junior Elle Schmidt finished the platform event in sixth and seventh place respectively. Bettridge totaled a score of 228.20 and Schmidt totaled a score of 221.35. Both scores were a combination of five dives.

Both scores narrowly missed their season highs set at the Tennessee Invitational in November of last year.

One the men’s side, sophomore Daniel Helm finished fifth with a total of 320.00

Senior Matt Vieke was narrowly behind his teammate in seventh with a score of 314.75.

Sophomore Kevin Leong ended the event in 18th place with a mark of 278.55.

Aside from Georgia, the field consisted of divers from Auburn, Southern Methodist University, Iowa State, Kentucky, Drexel, Florida, Virginia, Penn State, Tennessee and Virginia. More information and results can be found on DiveMeets.com.

The divers will rejoin the swimmers as they host Texas A&M at the LSU Natatorium at 12 p.m. All admission to LSU Swimming and Diving meets at the LSU Natatorium is free.
