BATON ROUGE – LSU gymnastics coach D-D Breaux announced Monday the Tigers have received a Southeastern Conference Financial Aid agreement from Britney Ranzy, who competed for Oregon State University last season.
A native of Chesapeake, Va., Ranzy will be eligible to compete as a sophomore this season for the Tigers after transferring from Oregon State.
Ranzy earned 2011 All-Pac-10 First Team honors on vault and captured the NCAA Corvallis Regional vault and floor titles during her freshman season with the Beavers.
Ranzy won six vault titles in only nine vaults during the season, and she posted a career best of 9.925 in three meets.
Prior to her collegiate career Ranzy was a standout club gymnast, competing as a U.S. Senior International Elite. She finished 14th in the all-around at the 2009 U.S. Visa National Championships.
“She comes in as a former elite gymnast at the club level and an All-Pac-10 performer,” Breaux said. “When she joins us in January she will give us instant depth.
“Britney is very powerful and has a high skill level. The fact that she is coming in as a sophomore with experience at the collegiate level is something we are really looking forward to.”
Ranzy joins a trio of freshmen – Rheagan Courville, Lloimincia Hall and Randi Lau – as newcomers for LSU in 2012. The freshmen have taken part in fall practice sessions, while Ranzy will join the squad in January.
LSU opens the 2012 season at the Cancun Classic on Jan. 6 when the Tigers take on Arizona, Arkansas, Auburn, Iowa and San Jose State. LSU will open the home season a week later on Jan. 13 against Auburn at 7 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
