Wolf Falls Short of ITA Regional Final

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Whitney Wolf, the No. 52 ranked player in the nation, fell just short of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Regional final in three competitive sets No. 41 Mary Anne MacFarlane of Alabama, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday, completing the Lady Tigers weekend on the campus of Samford University.

Wolf defeated Erin Stephens of Ole Miss 6-4, 7-6 in the quarterfinals earlier in the day.

“I was really impressed with Whitney’s level of play today,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said, “She is playing more consistently. Hopefully she can keep it up through the rest of the season.”

The LSU doubles team of Kaitlin Burns and Yvette Vlaar defeated Tatiana Larina and Andrea Nedorostova of Northwestern State to advance to the Doubles Consolation final.

In the final, the LSU pair fell to Tulane’s Caroline Magnusson and Caroline Thornton 8-5.

The Lady Tigers next take to the courts Friday, Nov. 4 at the Utah Fall Invitational in Salt Lake City.
