Men’s Tennis Completes Day 2 in Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. — The Tigers gave a valiant effort, but fell short today at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga.

Sophomore Matt Zachary played strong against Georgia State’s Lucas Santana, but could not quite go the distance dropping the last set 7-6. Senior Olivier Borsos laid it all on the court saving five match points against Georgia player Hernus Pieters, but could not hold on, giving up the last set 7-6.

“The guys are fighting and giving it their all and that is all we can ask for,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “This is what these fall tournaments are all about, learning what to expect and improving each time to prepare for the spring.”

The Tigers look ahead to their next tournament, the ITA All-American, which is set to begin Oct. 3 in Tulsa, Okla.

After a walkover in singles consolation, James Turbervill will play tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. CT in Athens.
