BATON ROUGE, La. – The Purple squad emerged victoriously over the Gold team (117-77) in the program’s annual all day intrasquad event Friday in the LSU Natatorium.

The competition was spread out into three different components that spanned the entire day. The teams were split up based on strengths and weaknesses to provide the coaches’ with an opportunity to gauge development since last season and summer training.

“I saw some stuff out of our freshmen, which was important,” Co-Head Coach Dave Geyer said. “Some of our freshman guys have some potential in the water. We are excited for not only our freshmen, but our transfers coming in. On the women’s side, Amanda Kendall looks amazing and Sara Haley looks great in the water. I think the freshmen on the women side also have the ability to develop. We saw some things were are excited about.”

Gold came out on top in the land relay competition 16-11, with the Purple squad notching an extra two points for spirit to bring the total to 16-13.

Directly after the running relays, Purple took the lead with their 13-6 performance in the diving skills competition. Purple held the slight edge over Gold 26 to 22 going into the afternoon portion of the competition.

Additionally, the swimmers in individual events were awarded four points for a first place finish, two points for a second place finish and one point for a third place finish in the corresponding events. The women divers received a score of two per victory for their squad, while the men earned five, three, two and one respectively for a first through fourth place finish. Each relay victory received four points apiece for their team.

The six captains selected for the upcoming season were split and half to lead each squad. Senior diver Matt Vieke junior diver Elle Schmidt and junior swimmer Timmy Dasinger lead the Purple squad. Junior swimmers Sean Roddy, Sally Wood and Sara Haley captained the Gold squad.

Purple ran away with the lead scoring 91 points in the afternoon swimming and diving portion of the competition compared to Gold’s 55 points.
