COSTA MESA, Calif. — Senior Neal Skupski utilized his momentum from this past weekend to knock off Evan Song and clinch a spot in the main draw at the USTA Future Qualifier Tournament earlier today.
After three consecutive wins during the qualifying round this weekend, Skupski came out strong to defeat Song 6-3,6-4, earning himself a spot in the main draw.
“Neal played his best match of the tournament today,” assistant coach Danny Bryan said. “One of his goals for today was to get off to a better start and he did a great job of doing just that.” “He is really looking forward to the main draw.”
As for the rest of the Tigers, Chris Simpson and Mark Bowtell were off today. They will partner together for the doubles main draw tomorrow to take on teammate Skupski and Great Britain native Chris Eaton for what should be an intriguing match.
Singles main draw play will begin on Wednesday with the times still to be determined.
