BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s swimming and diving team was ranked No. 20 in the final TYR/CSCAA Division I dual-meet poll of the season Monday, marking the fifth straight season the Tigers have finished in the top 25.
The Tigers (6-5, 0-3 SEC) earned fifth at the 2011 SEC Championships last month, their highest team finish since 2000. In addition, nine swimmers recorded NCAA provisional qualifying marks during the season, and all four Tiger divers competed at the NCAA Zone ‘D’ Regional.
Senior Hannes Heyl and sophomore Craig Hamilton qualified for the 2011 NCAA Championships and will represent the squad at the meet from March 24-26 in Minneapolis.
LSU is one of seven Southeastern Conference programs ranked in the poll. Conference champion Auburn leads the bunch as the Plainsmen were ranked third.
