BATON ROUGE – Alisa Goler and Ashley Pauly combined to go 4-for-5 at the plate and picked up five RBIs as No. 1 Georgia dealt the No. 21 LSU softball team an 8-0 five-inning setback in the middle game of the series Saturday at Jack Turner Stadium.
With two outs in the first inning, LSU (15-9, 0-4 SEC) loaded the bases. Anissa Young and Ashley Langoni were hit-by-pitches sandwiched between a Tammy Wray single. On a 0-2 pitch, Lauren Houston grounded out to first base to end the threat.
Georgia (20-1, 2-0 SEC) took advantage of the momentum to plate single runs on Megan Wiggins and Pauly RBI singles during the first and second innings, respectively.
The Bulldogs tacked on four runs in the third inning. Goler cranked a two-run homer to centerfield to chase LSU’s Brittany Mack from the game. UGA filled the bases later in the frame and Pauly connected for a two-run single to extend the advantage to 6-0.
Georgia took advantage of a LSU error and a passed ball during the fourth inning for the final margin of 8-0. Morgan Montemayor went the distance for the Bulldogs and tallied three strikeouts against one walk to improve to 8-1 on the season, while Mack fell to 5-3.
Simone Heyward provided a pair of hits for LSU from the top of the lineup.
