Texas Tech heads to Baton Rouge fresh off winning the UNM Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Lady Raiders posted wins over Wichita State and New Mexico en route to the tournament title.
“Texas Tech is a strong team,” said LSU women’s tennis coach Tony Minnis. “They are 2-0 this season and are a program on the rise. It will be a tough match and hopefully we will be ready to go.”
LSU is 19-0 in season-opening matches under Minnis and is 18-1 in home openers. The Lady Tigers have an all-time record of 6-0 against Texas Tech with the schools last meeting in 1999 when LSU shutout the Lady Raiders, 9-0.
LSU is led in singles play by junior Whitney Wolf. Ranked No. 33 in the ITA singles rankings, Wolf enters the 2011 spring season coming off a successful fall in which she posted a 7-5 record which featured three wins over opponents ranked in the ITA Preseason Top 35.
Wolf pairs with sophomore Keri Frankenberger to guide the squad in doubles. The Lady Tiger tandem recently collected wins over the No. 16, 35 and 49th-ranked doubles teams in the country at the UVA Winter Invitational.
