KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — LSU sophomore Rebecca St. Germain captured runner-up honors in the women’s one-meter competition to spearhead a fine session for the Tiger divers Tuesday at the Tennessee Diving Invitational.
Junior Brian Gemberling, sophomore Elle Schmidt and freshman Sean McKinney also advanced to the final of their respective springboard event with Gemberling registering a top-five finish in the men’s three-meter.
“We had a really good day, and I’m very pleased with the performance of our LSU Tigers,” co-head coach Doug Shaffer said. “We pushed through and gained a lot of momentum on Day 2 of this invite, and we represented LSU very well today.”
St. Germain tallied 287.40 points in the one-meter final, less than three points off the winning score of 290.10 by Auburn’s Anna Aguero. Schmidt finished 10th overall with a final score of 256.70 after qualifying in the prelims with a 247.30 mark.
Gemberling improved upon his three-meter prelim score of 339.75, totaling 356.15 points in the final to claim fifth.
McKinney placed 12th with a final mark of 305.40 after notching 327.20 points in the prelims. Fellow men’s diver Daniel Helm finished 17th in the prelims (307.15).
The Tennessee Diving Invite will wrap up Wednesday with the platform competitions. The women’s event will begin at 9 a.m. (CST) with the men to follow. Live results can be accessed at www.divemeets.com.
