CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Two LSU doubles wins highlighted play Sunday at the UVA Winter Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
The doubles team of Lady Tiger sophomore Keri Frankenberger and junior Whitney Wolf accumulated their second doubles upset in as many days, edging Utah’s 49th-ranked tandem of Paige Miles and Anastasia Putilina, 8-6, in the A Doubles draw.
LSU freshman Alexus Coats and sophomore Ebie Wilson also won in doubles action, defeating Missy Harris and Sarah Pham of Utah, 8-5, in the C Doubles draw.
“I have been very pleased with how we have played so far this weekend,” said LSU women’s tennis coach Tony Minnis. “I have seen major improvement from the fall. This team is really gaining confidence.”
In singles action, Wolf and Wilson each picked up their second singles wins of the weekend. Wolf squeaked past Utah’s Putilina, 7-6, 7-5, in the A Singles draw. Wilson, meanwhile, knocked off Pham of Utah, 6-2, 6-1, in the D Singles draw.
LSU senior Kylie Adamek collected her first win of the spring season on Sunday. The Baton Rouge native bested Utah’s Lauren Keller, 6-4, 6-3, in the H Singles draw.
The UVA Winter Invitational will conclude Monday with action beginning at 9 a.m. CST at Boyd Tinsley Courts.
