AUBURN, Ala. — Three Auburn players reached double-figures, including a game-high 12 points from Jordan Greenleaf, as Auburn defeated the LSU women’s basketball team by a score of 65-53 on Sunday afternoon at new Auburn Arena.

The Lady Tigers (12-7) dropped to 2-3 in Southeastern Conference play and head home to begin a four-game homestand at 7 p.m. CT Thursday against Ole Miss in the Maravich Center. The game will be televised by Cox Sports Television and carried on the LSU Sports Radio Network.

“I want to apologize to the Lady Tiger family for this performance,” said LSU head coach Van Chancellor. “This game was not as close as the final score. We didn’t take care of the ball like Lady Tiger fashion. We have got to find a way to get it fixed. We can’t miss easy shots and turn the ball over and expect to win. This was a disappointing performance. Auburn came out with fire and played hard. Give them credit, they did so many good things.”

Auburn (11-7, 4-1) won its fifth in a row in its new building and remained in third place in the league standings. After trailing by one in the early minutes, the Tigers never looked back forcing LSU into 20 turnovers. Auburn was only able to score 11 points off of the turnovers.

Adrienne Webb led LSU with 11 points and LaSondra Barrett nearly netted a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. LSU committed 14 first-half turnovers.

Taylor Turnbow gave the Lady Tigers an 11-10 lead with 11:37 left in the first half, but it was all Auburn after that. Auburn went on a 10-2 run and built a double-digit lead when Alli Smalley converted a lay-up with 3:42 left in the half. Greenleaf made consecutive jumpers and Auburn took a 32-21 lead into the locker room.

Auburn put together a 14-4 spurt in the first 10 minutes of the second half sparked by the play of Greenleaf. Morgan Toles’ jumper gave Auburn its largest lead, 50-28, with 11:37 left in the game. Auburn coach Nell Fortner then pulled her starters in the final 10 minutes.

The Lady Tigers finished at 36.5 percent from the floor, while Auburn shot 45.0 percent for the game. Smalley finished with 10 points and Toles added 11 points.
