CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Lady Tiger tandem of sophomore Keri Frankenberger and junior Whitney Wolf led the way for LSU on Day 1 of the UVA Winter Invitational Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.
Wolf, currently ranked No. 33 in the ITA singles rankings, easily defeated Kate Lukomskaya of Arkansas, 6-3, 6-3, in the A Singles draw. Meanwhile, Frankenberger took three sets to get by Arkansas’ Emily Carbone, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, in the B Singles draw.
“We played and competed very hard today,” said LSU women’s tennis coach Tony Minnis.
“I was especially pleased with Whitney Wolf. She played some solid tennis today.”
Sophomore Ebie Wilson also collected a singles win for the Lady Tigers. The Mobile, Ala., native topped Virginia’s Katie Gater, 6-0, 6-2, in the E Singles draw.
In doubles action, Wolf and Frankenberger teamed up to upset the No. 35-ranked doubles duo of Kate Lukomskaya and Kelsey Sundaram of Arkansas, 8-2, in the A Doubles draw.
The UVA Winter Invitational will resume Sunday at 9 a.m. CST at Boyd Tinsley Courts.
