BATON ROUGE — LSU freshman Daniel Helm garnered Southeastern Conference Male Diver of the Week honors for the second time this season, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Helm, who also earned the award on Nov. 9 following his performance against Florida, led the Tiger diving efforts at the Phil Hansel Cougar Classic Invitational last week with a pair of victories and career-high scores in all three events.
The Beaverton, Ore., native dove to victory in his collegiate debut on platform, tallying the third-highest total in school history, 331.40. He also won the three-meter competition with the fourth-best score in program history, 369.10, and posted a career best of 325.05 in the one-meter.
Helm’s platform total is currently the best in the conference, while he also holds the highest three-meter score among SEC freshmen.
Helm and fellow men’s divers Brian Gemberling, Matt Vieke and Sean McKinney have all qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Regional in March, and all four are currently ranked in the conference’s top 16 in all three diving events.
The Tiger divers return to action in mid-December when the program hosts the LSU Diving Invitational, beginning Dec. 16.
