TAMPA, Fla. – The LSU men’s tennis team wrapped up the 2010 fall season on a high note at the University of South Florida Fall Invitational on Sunday.
The Tigers clinched wins in four out of five singles matches and in three out of four doubles matches against their opponents at the USF Varsity Courts.
Tom Knights, Stefan Szacinski, James Turbervill and David Roberts all earned straight-set victories in the singles bracket.
In doubles competition, Knights and Szacinski took down Troy’s Branko Weber and Sammi Ghorbel, 8-4. Olivier Borsos and Roger Anderson paired up for the Tigers to pick up a win, while Turbervill teamed up with Julien Gauthier to notch a doubles victory.
With his victories, Szacinski completed an undefeated weekend by winning all seven of his matches. The Adelaide, Australia, native picked up two doubles and a singles win on Friday, and added a singles and doubles win on both Saturday and Sunday.
“Stefan got so many wins because he works so hard in practice every day,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “It was a great weekend for him.”
The tournament closes out a successful fall season for the Tigers, who will now turn their attention to preparing for the spring season.
“We had a lot of good competition this weekend,” Brown said. “We have one more week of official practice, and then we will look forward to continuing our strength and conditioning to get ready for our first match of the spring.”
LSU will take the court again on Jan. 9 at the Key Biscayne Invitational, held at the Tennis Center in Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, Fla., to kick off the spring season.
