Softball Completes Undefeated Fall Season

BATON ROUGE – The LSU softball team wrapped up an undefeated fall campaign highlighted by a trio of victories during the LSU Fall Collegiate Classic II last weekend at Tiger Park.

The Tigers defeated Northwestern State [2-0], Chipola CC [7-0] and Faulkner State [9-1] before tying with Louisiana-Monroe [0-0].

LSU’s offense continued its strong play and recorded 18 runs on 34 hits. The Tigers also reeled off 32 stolen bases to bring their total to 52 steal for the fall season.

The LSU pitching staff limited its opponents to one run on 11 hits. Rachele Fico, Brittany Mack and Meghan Patterson combined for 40 strikeouts over their 28 innings of work. Fico and Mack garnered eight Ks apiece in a pair of five-inning starts against Chipola CC and Faulkner State, respectively.

Ashley Applegate and Heidi Pizer provided the RBIs during LSU’s 2-0 win over Northwestern State. Simone Heyward and Alex Boulet also tallied three stolen bases apiece.

Applegate struck for two more RBIs to highlight a 3-for-3 performance to spark LSU’s 7-0 victory over Chipola CC. Jessica Mouse drew two walks and added two runs. Heyward and Boulet were joined by Cassie Trosclair and Jacee Blades with multiple steals.

Boulet, Heyward and Trosclair added multi-hit efforts as LSU pounded out 12 hits in a 9-1 rout of Faulkner State. Heyward scored three times and racked up four stolen bases.

LSU earned a runner-up finish at the SEC Tournament en route to a 45-16 finish, its 10th season with at least 45 victories since softball was reinstated in 1997. The Tigers also reeled off a program-best 24-game winning streak and recorded their 12th NCAA Regional appearance in 2010.
