BIRMINGHAM, Ala.  – The LSU women’s tennis team’s run at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships came to an end as the freshman duo of Yvette Vlaar and Ariel Morton fell in the consolation doubles final on Monday at the Samford Tennis Center.

The Lady Tiger tandem was unable to keep up their weekend momentum, dropping the final round match ‘to Auburn’s Olivia Bennet and Jackie Kasler, 8-3.

“It was a great effort by (Yvette and Ariel) to get to the finals,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “We had a lot of ups and downs in the tournament, so we should have a good idea of what we need to work on as we move forward.”

After falling in the doubles main draw on Friday, Vlaar and Morton picked up two wins on Saturday and added a third on Sunday to clinch a berth in the consolation final.

The Lady Tigers will be back on the court again in two weeks as they close out the fall season in Winston-Salem, N.C., at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
