BATON ROUGE – 25 members of the LSU men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams took time out of their fall breaks to visit children at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge Thursday afternoon.
The teams split into two groups and visited children throughout the third floor of the hospital. The children ranged in age from 4 years old to 17.
Members of the teams answered questions including “How many miles do you run each day?” and “How do you run so far?”
In addition to meeting and talking to members of the teams, the children also received LSU football posters to put up in their rooms.
“The kids seemed happy and were very welcoming,” said senior runner Amal Esmail. “It was cute to see them smile when we gave them the posters.”
Several of the young children were very shy when first greeted by members of the teams, but soon began smiling and interacting.
“It was really fun being here,” freshman runner William Wiesler said. “They were very excited to see us and it is really nice to see them happy. It is nice putting smiles on kids’ faces, so I enjoyed today a lot.”
The men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action Monday, Nov. 1 at the SEC Championships in Fort Jackson, S.C.
