EVANSTON, Ill. – LSU’s doubles tandem of Yvette Vlaar and Ariel Morton spearheaded the Lady Tigers’ efforts at Northwestern’s Wildcat Fall Invitational Saturday with a victory over Wisconsin’s Aleksandra Markovic and Lauren Gruber.
Vlaar and Morton defeated the Badgers’ duo, 8-6.
In singles, Vlaar led the Lady Tigers for the second consecutive day. Although the freshman fell in the second round of her flight to Wisconsin’s Jenny Hois, 6-3, 6-2, she stormed back to defeat DePaul’s Kelsey Lawson in commanding fashion, 6-1, 6-2.
Morton got off to a good start in her singles match, taking the opening set against Minnesota’s Magdalena Wiecha, but the freshman was unable to hold onto the momentum, falling in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Wildcat Fall Invitational will conclude Sunday with matches beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CT).
