BATON ROUGE – With Josh Maravich participating and Jackie Maravich among those watching, Team Carter literally “knocked out” the LSU coaching staff in the championship game of the student dodgeball tournament for the Maravich Maniacs that was held Wednesday in the men’s gymnasium of the new practice facility.
Team Carter was made up of students Dylan Laventhal, Raleigh Wolfe, Chase Oliver, Josh Fogarty and Chris Shinaberry with LSU basketball player Aaron Dotson. The teams were named after members of the All-Century team. Team Carter made it through a round of three minute games undefeated to get their chance at the overall championship match.
The opponents were self-proclaimed dodgeball expert LSU Head Coach Trent Johnson with Josh Maravich, assistant coaches Donny Guerinoni, Brent Scott, Director of Operations Nick Robinson and graduate assistant manager Zach Kendrick.
The event proved to be popular among LSU’s student fan group and afterwards the group met in the multi-purpose room of the PMAC for some snacks and to make further plans for the upcoming basketball season.
“It’s was an opportunity for the students to see a different side of the players, a different side of the coaches and a chance for us all to interact together,” said Johnson after the event. “I think the students are all aware that the coaches, we are like big kids anyway. I think what (the Maniacs) do for us in terms of their support and their enthusiasm is outstanding and we appreciate it.”
