BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A total of 30 LSU student-athletes notched 2010 Southeastern Conference Freshmen Academic Honor Roll accolades Monday as announced by league commissioner Mike Slive.

The recipients represent 11 LSU programs sparked by six members of the swimming and diving program. Elle Schmidt was an SEC All-Freshman Team performer after competing in 11 dual meets and was an NCAA Zone Regional diving qualifier.

Track and field also recorded six picks highlighted by Thomas Reinecke, who garnered All-SEC honors as one of the league’s top pole vaulters. He picked up a runner-up finish at the SEC Indoor Championships.

Soccer and softball combined for a quartet of selections apiece. Carlie Banks powered home seven goals and recorded four assists as the soccer program strung together its third consecutive SEC Western Division crown, while Fico compiled a sparkling 20-7 record with a SEC-best 1.15 ERA en route to SEC Co-Freshman of the Year and secured NFCA All-South Region First-Team status.

The tennis programs also added four honorees as Kaitlin Burns amassed 20 wins and was named to the All-Louisiana Second Team.

Gymnastics’ Shelby Prunty posted a season-high 9.825 on the beam at the NCAA Championship semifinal and narrowly missed All-America honors.

Baseball, men’s basketball and volleyball each placed one as the 2010 SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2009-10 academic calendar.

Each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
