BATON ROUGE – Five members of LSU’s swimming and diving program assisted in renovation efforts Tuesday at Lanier Elementary School.

Timmy Dasinger, Kannon Betzen, Audrey Lawson, Ali Sanford and Shanna Spears spent five hours opening boxes, painting classrooms and aiding in other various tasks at the school.

“I thought this was a great experience,” Dasinger said. “It was really cool to be a part of this life changing event. I think that this will be a great thing for the city of Baton Rouge.”

The project is part of an NBC show called “School Pride”, which provides needy schools across the country with a much-needed makeover. The network provides all the tools and experts to remake the school, but the school involves community volunteers to partake in the actual renovation. The show is set to premier in September.

Members of the team will return for more volunteer work Thursday at the school.
