BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s swimming and diving team and a trio of Lady Tiger swimmers were recently recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for their academic achievements.
The Lady Tigers were named to the 2010 CSCAA All-Academic Team for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.03, while NCAA All-Americans Jane Trepp and Samantha Goates and sophomore-to-be Kaelee Mader earned All-Academic Individual honors.
“It’s a great honor for our women’s program to show its continued success, not only in the water but also with a major focus in the classroom,” co-head coach David Geyer said. “We are thrilled for Sam and Jane as both not only earned athletic All-America honors this past season but carried 4.0 GPAs in the spring semester to achieve this academic honor as well.”
Trepp, a native of Tallinn, Estonia, picked up her fourth and fifth All-America accolades of her career in relay competition this past season and advanced to the finals of all three of her events at the 2010 SEC Championships with school-record times in each.
The rising senior also enjoyed a superb international season, emerging with a silver medal in the 50-meter breaststroke at the 2009 European Short-Course Championships with the sixth-fastest time in the world, 29.82 seconds. In addition, she raced at the 2009 FINA World Championships and the 2009 World University Games.
Goates, a product of Visalia, Calif., became a two-time All-American as a member of the Lady Tigers’ 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays. The junior-to-be also recorded personal bests of 23.07 in the 50 free and 50.07 in the 100 free, which are both ranked eighth all-time in school history.
Mader, a native of Houston, came on strong toward the end of the season, placing 16th in the 400 individual medley at SEC’s and registering program top-10 marks in both individual medley races.
