Nominee for Player of the Week

Kirsten Shortridge, CF, Sr., Keller, Texas
Shortridge continued her offensive tear as LSU kept its winning streak alive and set a new program mark with 21 straight victories. The reigning SEC and USA Softball Player of the Week posted four multi-hit efforts en route to a .500 hitting clip. She also scored five runs and was a perfect 6-for-6 in the stolen base department. Her alert baserunning and two steals single handily manufactured both of LSU’s runs in a 2-1 game two triumph over Ole Miss.

Nominee for Player of the Week

Cody Trahan, P, Sr., Little Cypress, Texas
Trahan continued her strong 2010 campaign and notched two more wins to improve to 8-0 on the season. She fired a three-hitter and notched six strikeouts to open the Auburn series. The Texas native used a nice finishing kick and sat down 13 of the final 16 batters she faced. For the season, Trahan has surrendered only two runs and 57 strikeouts in 53 frames of work.

Nominee for Freshman of the Week

Rachele Fico, P, Fr., Oxford, Conn.
Fico was an instrumental part of LSU’s 5-0 week as the Tigers remained the SEC’s lone undefeated team. Fico picked up two wins and a save over 11.0 shutout innings to extend LSU’s winning streak to a program record and league high 21 games. The Connecticut native entered game two of the Ole Miss doubleheader and tossed 2.2 frames of one-hit relief to earn the win. She picked up the final out along with stranding runners at second and third base to secure LSU’s 4-3 middle game triumph over Auburn. That win gave LSU set a new program mark with 20 straight wins breaking the 19-game streak set by the 2000 squad. In her lone start of the week, Fico added a six-hit shutout of Auburn during the series finale and has strung together nine consecutive victories since opening weekend.

Notes on the Tigers
LSU softball extended its program best and league long winning streak to 21 games. The Tigers continued its strong play with sweeps over Ole Miss and Auburn to move to 8-0 in SEC play matching their best league start under head coach Yvette Girouard. LSU has used a total team effort with phenomenal offensive, tremendous pitching and outstanding defense during the streak. The offense has posted a .311 team batting average during the streak as six different players have compiled double-digit RBIs. Rachel Mitchell posted a team-best five RBIs for the week, including a two-run homer to cap a 3-for-3 performance in the Auburn series finale. Reigning SEC and USA Softball Player of the Week Kirsten Shortridge notched a .500 hitting clip, scored five runs and tallied a 6-for-6 effort in the stolen base department. She used alert baserunning and scored both of LSU’s runs in a 2-1 win during game two of the Ole Miss doubleheader. The Tiger pitching staff continues to roll as LSU’s three-headed monster of Cody Trahan, Brittany Mack and Rachele Fico each rank inside the SEC’s Top 6 in ERA. The staff sports a SEC-best 0.77 ERA and have surrendered only 11 earned runs in 138.0 frames of work. For the season, Trahan has racked up an impressive 57 strikeouts against four walks, while Fico has won nine straight decisions since opening weekend. The Tiger defense also has compiled a sparking .978 fielding percentage and committed only 12 errors during the streak. LSU steps out of conference play for a pair of mid-week tilts against Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana.
