Cody Trahan continued her assault in non-conference action and notched a pair of wins en route to All-Tournament honors at the Purple & Gold Challenge. The Little Cypress, Texas product continues to lead the SEC with a stifling 0.21 ERA during the season and didn’t allow a run in her 9.1 innings of work over the weekend. She posted five strikeouts over five innings in a complete-game win over Campbell, a 2009 NCAA Regional squad. Trahan fired a flawless 4.1 frames of relief against Syracuse and sat down all 13 batters she faced.

Rachel Mitchell, RF, Sr., LaPorte, Texas
Rachel Mitchell came away with Purple & Gold Challenge MVP honors and racked up seven RBIs as the Tigers pushed their winning streak to 13 games. The LaPorte, Texas native notched a trio of multi-RBI efforts and also scored six runs to go along with three stolen bases. Mitchell knocked a two-run homer against South Alabama and followed that up with a bases clearing double against Campbell, a 2009 NCAA Regional participant.

Rachele Fico, RHP, Fr., Oxford, Conn.
Rachele Fico continued her breakout freshman campaign and posted a 2-0 weekend for the third straight weekend as she earned All-Tournament Honors at the Purple & Gold Challenge. LSU pushed its winning streak to 13 games as Fico allowed only one earned run over 13.0 innings of week. She hurled a career-best eight innings and retired the last 10 batters she faced during a 2-1 extra-inning over Campbell, a 2009 NCAA Regional squad. The Connecticut native has now won six straight decisions and allowed only 18 hits in 41.0 frames during her impressive steak.

Notes on the Tigers
LSU softball continued its winning ways and pushed its streak to 13 straight games with a 5-0 weekend at the Purple & Gold Challenge inside of Tiger Park. Three of LSU’s five victories came via the run rule as the Tigers outscored their opponents by an impressive 39-4 margin. The Tigers notched a .302 team batting average and were a perfect 18-for-18 in the stolen base department. LSU’s pitching staff compiled a 0.90 ERA and held opponents to a .168 hitting clip. Rachele Fico, Courtney Hollier, Rachel Mitchell, Kirsten Shortridge and Cody Trahan each garnered All-Tournament Team accolades with Mitchell taking home MVP honors. Mitchell and Hollier drove home a team-best seven RBIs, while being joined by seven other Tigers to produce multiple RBIs on the weekend. Mitchell ripped a three-run double to put the Campbell game to conclude pool away. Later that afternoon, Hollier provided the heroics with a walk-off homer in the eighth inning against Campbell to open bracket play. In the circle, Trahan and Fico picked up a pair of wins apiece and surrendered only a combined one run over 22.1 innings of work. Trahan has won all five of her decisions and paces the SEC with a 0.21 ERA, while Fico has won six straight decisions since opening weekend. Against Syracuse in Sunday’s championship game, Trahan started her 4.1 frames of flawless relief by getting out of bases loaded jam to keep the score at 2-2.
