LSU pushed its winning streak to eight games highlighted by the Tiger Invitational championship over the weekend at Tiger Park. The Tigers improved to 13-4 and LSU’s pitching staff dropped its ERA to 0.95 on the season. Rachele Fico and Cody Trahan picked up All-Tournament honors as the duo picked up two wins apiece. Fico, the tournament MVP, surrendered only four hits and mowed down 20 batters in 13.0 innings of work. She held opponents to a stifling .093 batting average for the week. She has only allowed one run during the season and is 3-0 with an astonishing 0.30 ERA. Lauren Houston and Kirsten Shortridge joined Fico and Trahan on the All-Tournament team. LSU used late-inning heroics to win its last three games of the tournament. Tied 1-1 with Jacksonville State on Saturday in the sixth inning, Houston provided the go-ahead single and Shortridge ripped a two-run double. Ashley Langoni opened Sunday’s action and belted a walk-off homer against Houston in the ninth inning, while Ashley Applegate sparked a four-run fifth inning with a RBI-single to bust open a 1-1 tie against JSU. She hustled all the way around the bases after a throwing error by the Gamecocks went to the wall. Anissa Young started the week with a career-day by cranking a pair of home runs and five RBIs in an 11-0 rout over Southeastern Louisiana. LSU continues its 18-game homestand this weekend when the Tigers welcome Campbell, South Alabama and Syracuse for the Purple and Gold Challenge.
