ATHENS, Ga. — LSU women’s swimmers Kannon Betzen and Mary Beck each recorded runner-up finishes on the first day of the University of Georgia’s Bulldog Last Chance Meet Saturday in Athens, Ga.
Betzen improved her season best in the 100-yard breaststroke to take second in that race with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 1 minute, 2.03 seconds.
Beck swam to provisional marks in both the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley and delivered a second-place finish in the 100 back. The sophomore registered a clocking of 53.90 in the finals of the 100 back and a time of 1:58.92 in the prelims of the 200 I.M., but she did not swim that event in the evening session.
Sunday’s action will begin at 9 a.m. (CST). Betzen will likely swim the 200 breast, while Beck figures to go after a season best in the 200 back as both attempt to enhance their chances of earning an invitation to the women’s NCAA Championships in March.
