BATON ROUGE – The No. 16 LSU softball team will take fans behind the scenes at different points during the 2010 season. LSU plays host to its second of three home tournaments as Houston, Jacksonville State and Southern visit Tiger Park for the Tiger Invitational this weekend.
Senior Cody Trahan is 1-0 and hasn’t allowed a run in 11.2 innings of work. She has limited opponents to a .125 hitting clip as LSU’s pitching staff paces the SEC with a 1.05 staff ERA.
“We truly appreciate the home field advantage that our fans create and there’s nothing better than a rowdy Tiger Park crowd! I wanted to take the time to make sure you know about all the traditions we have at Tiger Park and invite you to join in.
During lineup introductions, we say a quick “Tiger Bait” when each opposing team player is called. Let’s work together to make sure that opponent’s know they are Tiger Bait.
My favorite tradition takes place during the middle of the first inning when the team gets together outside the dugout and leads the fans in a resounding “Geaux Tigers!” chant. That gets the stadium really loud and pumps up our offense. We also ask you as fans to do is help us celebrate every home run by spelling out T-I-G-E-R-S after our hitter crosses the plate.
Another one of my favorite traditions as a pitcher is the two-strike clap. When an opposing batter has two strikes, it starts with a slow clap and gradually gets faster. It really motivates our pitchers and gets our energy up to strike that batter out.
As for our postgame traditions, we ask you to join us in singing the LSU Alma mater after each home victory. This is something we look forward to as a team, and it’s a special way that we can celebrate with you. We’ve already started signing autographs on the Berm after games this season.
We can use any advantage that we can get in this very tough Southeastern Conference. You already provide us with one of those advantages with your support and dedication by coming out to every game. I hope this note has explained a few of our traditions and that you can help us build more of a home field advantage as this season progresses. Let’s make Tiger Park the toughest park in the SEC!
Geaux Tigers,
Cody
