PARRISH, Fla. — The 12th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers stand in a tie for fourth place after their first two rounds of the spring season at the Central District Invitational hosted by Michigan State at the River Wilderness Golf Course Monday.
The Lady Tigers had rounds of 295-303 to stand at 22-over 598 after 36 holes of the 54-hole event that concludes on Tuesday. LSU is tied with fourth-ranked Purdue who shot the exact same scores as LSU. Florida shot seven-under in the second round of the afternoon and the 18th-ranked Lady Gators are at five under to lead at 571 after rounds of 290-281. TCU is second at 15-over 591 and Arkansas at 596 is two shots ahead of LSU and Florida.
LSU sophomore Tessa Teachman had the best day for the Lady Tigers with rounds of one-under 71 and two-over 74 and stands at one-over 145, in a tie for seventh place in the individual competition. Teachman is five shots out of the 140 lead posted by Arkansas’ Kelli Shean.
LSU had a little bit of slippage at the end of the second round, but Coach Karen Bahnsen was pleased with their positioning after the first day out on the links for scoring rounds.
“We got off to a good start and for the first time on the course in a tournament environment in the spring, it was a good day,” said Bahnsen. “But we need to be able to grind through to the end of the day. We may have gotten a little tired at the end, but we are in a nice position and need to come out Tuesday and keep moving forward.”
LSU’s Abby Oberthier shot back-to-back 75s to stand at six-over 150 and is in a tie for 17th place and Megan Mcchrystal struggled to a 77 in the second round after an opening 74, but is still in the top 25 with a tie for 23rd score of seven-over 151.
The final round begins at 7 a.m. CST and live scoring will be available at LSUsports.net through Golfstat.com.
