BATON ROUGE – The LSU softball team concluded its first week of practice with an afternoon session Friday at Tiger Park.

Prior to taking the practice field, the players along with head coach Yvette Girouard spent the morning filming video board elements for the upcoming season. Questions answered included which Tiger has the messiest locker, the best dance moves and which player does the best impression of Girouard.

“It’s been a great first week of two-a-day practices, and I couldn’t be happier with where the team is right now,” Girouard said. “The players are a little tired so they’ll take some time to recover this weekend and be ready to go hard next week. It’s been an excellent experience for them to bond with each other.”

LSU scrimmaged Thursday under the lights and Girouard was extremely pleased with how the defense performed.

“Our catchers [Morgan Russell and Lauren Houston] stepped up and did a fantastic job of throwing runners out,” Girouard said. “I also thought the defense was on the same page and did a great job of executing. There aren’t a lot of balls dropping and everyone is flying around the field to make plays.”

LSU starts the 2010 season at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational against North Carolina, DePaul and host Texas, a trio of 2009 NCAA Tournament squads. The Tigers compiled an impressive 441-137-1 record and are sixth nationally since Girouard took over the program prior to the 2001 season.
