BOCA RATON, Fla. — The nationally-ranked LSU swimming teams are anxious to dive back into action after some frigid temperatures kept the squads out of competition earlier this week, and they will have that chance Friday at Florida Atlantic.
The 18th-ranked LSU men (1-4) and 21st-ranked Lady Tigers (2-4) will travel to FAU Pool in Boca Raton, Fla., to square off against the Owls at 1 p.m. (CST).
The competition is only the second meeting between the two schools. In their first ever meeting last season, LSU swept the Owls. The Tigers emerged victorious, 165-66, with wins in all 11 events, while the Lady Tigers swam to a 147-84 victory.
Junior Hannes Heyl will spearhead the men’s team into the meet as the German holds the squad’s top times in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly.
Co-captains Jane Trepp and Kannon Betzen will lead the Lady Tigers. Trepp possesses team-best times in the 50 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 fly, while Betzen is the women’s top performer in the 200 breast and is also an impact performer in the 100 breast and 200 individual medley.
Following the FAU meet, the Tigers will make the trek to Gainesville to challenge SEC opponent Florida Sunday at 1 p.m. The LSU divers will join the swimmers for the key road test in the O’Connell Center Natatorium.
