Guillory Wins Softball’s Annual Tiger Triathlon

BATON ROUGE — The LSU softball team recently competed in its seventh-annual Tiger Triathlon that included swimming, biking and running around the LSU campus.

Katie Guillory won the event with an overall time of 43:15, a full 2:59 ahead of her teammates. Freshmen Allison Falcon and Rachele Fico finished second and third, respectively. Junior Jessica Mouse and sophomore Courtney Hollier rounded out the Top 5. Junior Ashley Applegate, last year’s winner, finished in sixth position.

The Tigers began the triathlon by swimming 300 yards at the Natatorium. Immediately after finishing the swimming event, they picked up a bike and rode four miles along a course that ended at the flagpole on the levee on River Road. The ride began outside the Natatorium and the team rode around the classic Tiger Park, past the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium, along the track and field facilities and crossed over Nicholson by the classic Alex Box Stadium.

The triathlon wrapped up with a 2.5-mile run down Skip Bertman Dr. and South Stadium Dr., circled Tiger Stadium and crossed the finish line at the flagpole at the levee.

“This was a successful team experience because each player competed strong,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “Our strength coach, Melissa Moore, and our trainer, Ana Gross, do an excellent job and work extremely hard to make sure our Tigers are in tip-top condition.”

LSU opens the 2010 season at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational where the Tigers square off against North Carolina, DePaul and host Texas, a trio of NCAA Tournament squads from a season ago.

LSU is sixth nationally and has compiled an impressive 441-137-1 record since Girouard took over the program prior to the 2001 season.
