AUBURN, Ala. — Lady Tigers Kylie Adamek and Sloane Mathis fell to their opponents in the qualifying round of the ITA Southern Regional Championships on Thursday hosted by Auburn at the Yarborough Tennis Center.
Adamek dropped her match to Hila Elster of Tulane 6-4, 6-4, and after a hard-fought three-set duel, Mathis came up short to Samford’s Lindsey Mallory 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
“I was a little disappointed, but the girls played hard,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “We’re looking forward to playing again tomorrow.”
Round one of the 64-seed tournament will begin Friday with doubles first followed immediately by singles as freshmen Kaitlin Burns and Ebie Wilson will team up against Fani Chifchieva and Caroline Thornton from Auburn.
Fourth-seeded Nicole Kantor and Whitney Wolf will be matched against Ana Burjaili and Lena Satge of UL-Monroe. Adamek and Keri Frankenberger will face UL-Lafayette’s Mia Gordon and Audrey Woodland.
In singles, Wilson looks to add another victory to her record as she will play Karoline Grymel of Troy, who is seeded No.9-16, and Burns will face Auburn’s Taylor Schreimann.
Sophomore Wolf, who last claimed a win over DePaul’s 66th-ranked Anna Redesci at the Rice Invitational, is seeded No. 7 in the tournament and will take on Alina Volman of South Alabama.
Fresh off of an appearance at the ITA All-American Championships, Kantor is also one of seven players seeded No. 9 in the tournament and is set to play Tulane’s Lindsay Dvorak. Earlier this season, Frankenberger defeated Dvorak 6-1, 6-1 at the Rice Invitational.
Matches will begin at 8 a.m. CDT.
