TULSA, Okla. — LSU men’s tennis sophomore Neal Skupski defeated Georgia Tech’s fifth-ranked Guillermo Gomez in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, on Thursday  in the first round of the singles main draw at the D’Novo All-American Championships hosted at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
 
“This was a great win for Neal and shows that his hard work is paying off,” LSU assistant coach Danny Bryan said. “He is looking forward to playing tomorrow.”
 
The LSU sophomore squares off against Texas’ Ed Corrie in his second-round matchup. Corrie garnered a second-round spot after defeating Virginia’s Lee Singer, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. 
 
Skupski also moved into the second round of the doubles main draw with partner Sebastian Carlsson after a default by Oklahoma duo Ionut Beleleu and Andrei Daescu.
 
The Tiger tandem faces Boris Conkic and John Patrick Smith of Tennessee in the second round of competition. Conkic and Smith earned entry into the second round by defeating third-ranked Robert Farah and Steve Johnson of Southern California, 9-7.
 
Skupski and Carlsson will kick off second-round competition as a duo at 10 a.m. CDT followed by Skupski’s singles match slated for 11 a.m.
