BATON ROUGE?The LSU women’s tennis team wrapped up the Hoosier Classic hosted by Indiana and the Rice Invitational hosted by Rice Sunday with two individual tournament championships.
In Bloomington, Ind., Nicole Kantor finished the first tournament of her senior campaign on the right foot as she took down Kansas State’s Antea Huljev 6-1, 6-3 for the championship match of Flight 1.
Freshman Ebie Wilson claimed her first tournament championship as she ousted Lindsey Stuckey of Indiana 6-2, 6-1.
“I’m really proud of Nicole and Ebie for winning the tournament. Nicole beat three No. 1 players, so I was really impressed with how she played,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “Ebie winning the tournament as a freshman was really great.”
Lady Tiger Kylie Adamek picked up another victory as she beat Mississippi State’s Jordan Zachary 6-0, 6-1.
Due to injury, Kaitlin Burns retired her match against Natalia Mayuk of MSU. Burns dropped her first set to Mayuk 6-0.
At the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas, Georgia Pozzan of Sam Houston State defaulted her match to Whitney Wolf. In extra match-play, Wolf captured a win over DePaul’s Anna Redesci 6-2, 6-4.
Freshman Keri Frankenberger defeated Tulane’s Lindsay Dvorak 6-1, 6-1. Sloane Mathis fell to UTSA’s Nicci Yvanovich a hotly-contested three-set match 0-6, 6-1, 12-10.
The Lady Tigers will next take the courts on Oct. 3 when Kantor travels to Los Angeles, Calif. for the pre-qualifying round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Tournament.
