BATON ROUGE — The LSU softball team capped the opening weekend of the fall season with a 4-0 shutout of LSU-Eunice Sunday at Tiger Park.
All five members of the Tiger pitching staff saw action en route to the staff’s third one-hitter of the weekend. The pitching quintet also racked up eight strikeouts as Casey Faile, Rachele Fico and Cody Trahan each recorded two strikeouts apiece.
Allison Falcon fueled the offense with a pair of hits and three RBIs.
“Our team was very efficient on another very hot afternoon,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “All five pitchers threw well, and I thought the defense was solid for the most part. Southeastern wasn’t able to compete due to illness on the team. We’re trying to make up the game at a later date to be able to meet our eight-game fall limit.”
LSU grabbed control early and tallied two runs in the first inning. With one out, Jessica Mouse knocked a hit followed by a Juliana Santos walk. An Ashley Langoni single loaded the bases and Falcon slapped a two-run single.
The Tigers added two runs in the fifth inning as Langoni drew a bases loaded walk followed by another Falcon RBI-single for the final margin of 4-0.
LSU continues the fall season next weekend at Tiger Park with games scheduled against LSU-Alexandria, Chipola Community College and Nicholls State.
