Women’s Tennis Completes Opening Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The LSU women’s tennis team completed its opening weekend of the fall season as each Lady Tiger competed in just one singles match to finish the tournament on Sunday hosted by Vanderbilt at the Currey Tennis Center.

“I felt like the freshmen really stepped up under pressure at the SEC tournament,” said assistant head coach Lisa Jackson. “Whitney Wolf showed that she made some improvements over the summer; however, we still have a lot of work to do and a long year ahead of us.”

“We’re excited to get back to practice and get ready for our next tournament.”

Sophomore Wolf finished a fantastic weekend as she defeated Laura Van de Stroet of Ole Miss in a close two-set match 7-6(6), 6-4.

Newcomer Keri Frankenberger held her own as she took down South Carolina’s Rita Maisak 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2 in a hotly-contested three-set match.

Freshman Ebie Wilson fell short to Ole Miss’s Karen Nijssen 4-6, 0-6, and Kaitlin Burns lost to Lady Vol Kata Szekely 3-6, 1-6.

The Lady Tigers will next travel to Bloomington, Ind. for the Hoosier Classic and Houston, Texas for the Rice Invitational for their next matchups the weekend of Sept. 25-27.
