BATON ROUGE — Lady Tiger great Muna Lee will compete for a gold medal Friday at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics after advancing to the 200-meter final by winning her semifinal heat during Thursday’s action at Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany.
Lee, who just missed winning a medal in the event with a fourth-place finish at the Olympic Games last summer, cruised to the finish line in 22.30 seconds to win the third of three semifinal heats on Thursday.
Lee will line up in Lane 3 in Friday’s final that is scheduled to run at 2 p.m. CT. She is also scheduled to run in the qualifying round of the 4×100-meter relay for the United States on Friday at 12:30 p.m. CT.
Former Lady Tiger star Kelly Baptiste of Trinidad & Tobago saw her World Championships run come to an end in the semifinal round of the 200 meters as she finished fourth in the same heat as Lee with a wind legal time of 22.96. Like Lee, Baptiste is also scheduled to run in the qualifying round of the 4×100 relay during Friday’s competition at Olympic Stadium.
