Venus Earns US Open Qualifying Wild Card

BATON ROUGE — Former LSU singles and doubles All-American Michael Venus earned a wild card entry for the qualifying round of the US Open the USTA announced.
 
Venus, a native of Orlando, Fla., was one of nine wild card entries into the qualifying round and joins fellow USTA Summer Team member and former Southeastern Conference competitor Blake Strode in the qualifying rounds.
 
In addition to Strode and Venus, Lester Cook, Grigor Dimitrov, Alexander Domijan, Ryan Harrison, Scoville Jenkins, Ryan Lipman and Tim Smyczek received wild cards for the qualifying rounds.
 
The qualifying draw will be held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center from August 25-28, with the main draw of the tournament beginning August 31.
 
During Venus’ impressive senior campaign at LSU, he forever impacted the history of the program by becoming the first LSU player to capture the D’Novo All-American Championship and only the second player to receive Southeastern Conference Player of the Year honors.
