BATON ROUGE — After two days of practicing in shorts and helmets, LSU added shoulder pads to its workout gear on Saturday as the Tigers dodged thunderstorms during both the morning and afternoon sessions here at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.
The veterans once again practiced in the morning, going for over two hours under partly cloudy skies. The Tigers continue to use the early part of camp to install the offense and defense.
The Tigers rookies and select veterans were chased indoors on Saturday afternoon when a thunderstorm pounded the LSU campus with rain. The Tigers got the afternoon session started outside on the new artificial turf practice field; however, they were forced to finish the practice inside.
In addition to the practice sessions on Saturday, the Tigers took part in a two one-hour media training sessions directed by Dr. Tommy Karam.
Sunday calls for a break in the practice schedule as the Tigers will take off tomorrow in order to participate in the school’s annual Media Day and Fan Day. Media Day activities get started on the campus at 11:30 a.m. with Fan Day to follow at the Baton Rouge River Center at 3:30 p.m. Doors to the River Center open at 2:30 p.m. with Les Miles and the rest of the Tigers being on hand from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for autographs and pictures.
LSU will return to practice on Monday for what will be the final day of split-squad practices. LSU will practice as a full unit, and in full pads, for the first time on Tuesday morning.
