Applegate Named to SEC Softball Community Service Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — LSU sophomore Ashley Applegate was one of 11 players selected to the SEC Softball Community Service Team Tuesday as announced by the league office.

Applegate volunteered at events such as Keep Baton Rouge Beautiful Campaign where she picked up debris and trash from Hurricane Gustav to Big Buddy Program’s Evening of Champions serving as a role model and participating in activities with children.

As an elementary education major, Applegate also has tutored students at Westdale Heights and Airline Elementary Schools in addition to joining her teammates to provide gifts for an underprivileged child as part of Christmas with the Tigers Event.

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community with superior service efforts.

LSU faces off with host Tennessee Thursday in the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcasted on The X 104.5/104.9 FM in the Baton Rouge area.
